Complete Fresh Breath - Oral Hygiene Range
Dogs and cats need dental care too – effective care at home as well as professional care from the veterinary surgeon. Dental disease is common in dogs, one of the signs being bad breath. While cavities occur in both dogs and cats, it is periodontal(gum) disease that is the most common and serious dental problem. Kyron has a complete dental care program, from toothpaste, gel and oral liquid to special pet toothbrushes.
How do dental problems start?
The problem begins when plaque and tartar are allowed to build up on the teeth. If this plaque is not removed tartar will start to form. This forms an even better surface for more plaque, laden with bacteria, to stick to. Tartar forms at the gum-line. If this isn’t treated, the gums move away from the tartar, forming pockets that fill with bacteria. These bacteria gradually infect the gum tissue and the root of the tooth, eroding the underlying bone that keep the teeth in place.
Warning Signs of Poor Oral Health
Many pets with dental disease suffer in silence, but others show acute pain while eating. Some pet’s act depressed. In older animals, owners may mistakenly blame these signs on “old age”. Pet’s teeth are normally white and smooth. Healthy gums are pink and smooth and adhere tightly to the teeth.
